Questions

How long does a roof repair take?

Small repairs are a visit. A replacement is usually a day or two. Weather and materials move both.

Most individual repairs, a boot, a flashing, a section of shingles, are done in a single visit of a few hours once the contractor is on site. The wait is usually for the visit itself, which after a big storm can be days or weeks because every roofer in the county is busy at once.

A full replacement on a typical north Houston house is commonly a day for a straightforward roof and two for a large, steep or complex one, with the tear-off and dry-in finished the first day so the house is never left open overnight. What stretches it: decking that turns out to need replacing, weather, and material delivery, especially for anything that is not standard architectural shingle.

Two things are worth asking before the job starts: whether the roof will be dried in by the end of each day, and what happens if rain arrives mid-job. A contractor who does this regularly has an answer for both.
